HomeCare & Hospice Receives Walmart Spark Good Grant to Enhance Patient Care Training

New funding will support the purchase of a Hoyer lift, strengthening safety, training, and quality care for patients and caregivers.

ALLEGANY - HomeCare & Hospice has received funding through the Walmart Spark Good Local Grants program to purchase a new Hoyer lift, equipment that will improve training and quality of care for their patients and caregivers.

Spark Good Local Grants are awarded through an open application process to eligible organizations operating locally and directly benefiting the service area of the facility. This program is designed to support local organizations that meet the unique needs of the communities where Walmart operates, build pride among all associates, and deepen relationships with their customers and members. Each year, Walmart U.S. stores, Sam’s Clubs, and Distribution Centers award local cash grants ranging from $250-$5,000.

A Hoyer lift is used to safely transfer patients with limited mobility during home visits, reducing the risk of injury to both the patient and caregiver. The lift plays an important role in training home health aides and clinical staff in safe patient handling.

“This equipment will be an invaluable addition to our staff training, helping ensure our team is confident, prepared, and equipped to provide the highest level of safe, hands-on care to those we serve,” said Cathy Tomerlin, Education Coordinator at HomeCare & Hospice.

“We are grateful for this funding that allows us to strengthen the care we provide every day,” said Melissa Sullivan, Chief Executive Officer at HomeCare & Hospice.

HomeCare & Hospice encompasses a licensed home care program allowing patients with short-term needs or chronic conditions to remain in their own homes and a hospice program providing medical care and emotional support for patients and their families coping with a terminal illness. Both focus on quality of life. HomeCare & Hospice (HCH) helps maintain independence at home with compassion in communities throughout Allegany, Cattaraugus, Genesee, and Wyoming counties. Spark Good Local Grant applications are accepted and reviewed during three submission periods this year. Walmart is focused on impact and connected to our purpose to help people live better.
