Springville Center for the Arts Announces Kids Summer Programs

SPRINGVILLE - Springville Center for the Arts (SCA) announces summer visual and performing arts workshops for children grades 3 through 8 sponsored by Springville-Griffith Community Foundation. Classes run for six weeks Monday through Thursday, beginning on July 7th and ending on August 14th. Each workshop will incorporate students' learnings into SCA’s end of summer event, Gather at the Gully, on August 16th. Courses are now available for enrollment at SpringvilleArts.org or by calling 716-592-9038.

SCA is offering a wide variety of kids workshops including: Intro to Theater, Page to Stage, Improvisation, Music & Movement, Crankies Creation & Performance, Set Building, Art Activities, Stop Motion Animation, Puppet Making, Castle Camp, Photography, and Lil’ SLAM (Students Loving Arts & Music) Musical Theater Camp. In general, classes run Monday through Thursday, 10:00am-3:00pm (with Lil’ SLAM ending at 4:00pm). Registration is $40 per week or $100 for a Summer Super Pass, covering the entire six-week program. Those interested in Lil’ SLAM must purchase a Summer Super Pass to register.

This year's Lil’ SLAM Musical Theater Camp will be performing Singin’ in the Rain Jr. at Gather at the Gully on Saturday, August 16th. Singin’ in the Rain Jr. is a 60-minute adaptation of the classic musical set in 1920’s Hollywood, focusing on the transition of silent film to “talkies.” In this process-oriented camp, kids entering grades 3 through 8 will explore the building blocks of musical theater and participate in fun activities resulting in a full theater production of Singin’ in the Rain. Lil’ SLAM meets Monday through Thursday from 1:00-4:00pm at Springville Center for the Arts from July 28th to August 14th. Participants are welcome to attend other workshops offered at no additional cost.

Springville Center for the Arts’ kids summer programs run Monday, July 7th to Thursday, August 14th at 37 N Buffalo St, Springville. Participation in the Gather at the Gully event on August 16th is only mandatory for Lil’ SLAM performers, but highly encouraged for other workshop registrants. To register, visit SpringvilleArts.org or call SCA 716-592-9038.

SPARK! for Grades K-2nd

SPRINGVILLE - Not sure what to do over Summer break? Springville Center for the Arts (SCA) announces that SPARK! for grades K-2nd will meet on Friday mornings, 10:00am-noon July 11th to August 15th. Modeled after the Reggio Emilia approach to learning “process over product,” each class seeks to stimulate children’s overall learning and creative expression through artistic mayhem. Cost is $90 for all six sessions or $80 for Art Center members.

SPARK! embraces and cultivates each child’s individual creativity and spirit through contact with the arts. “Kids will get their hands on a number of materials - from found objects, cardboard boxes, and wooden blocks to clay, paint, and beads. There will always be an opportunity for kids to experiment and find their own artistic voice,” said SCA's Visual Arts Interns & Summer SPARK! Instructors, Grace Fox and Rebecca Povill.

The program meets at Art’s Underground, located at 66 East Main Street in Springville. To register or receive more information on SPARK! visit SpringvilleArts.org or contact 716-592-9038.
