Alan F. Stocker, 88, Longtime Ellicottville Resident and HoliMont Member, Passes Away

A Korean War veteran, engineer, boater, and skier remembered for his deep love of Ellicottville, family, and community.


ELLICOTTVILLE - Alan F. Stocker, 88, of Ellicottville, passed away Friday, December 5, 2025 at Mercy Hospital. He was born on January 18, 1937 in Kenmore, son of the late Frank and Loretta (Hirsch) Stocker. He was a Korean War veteran, serving for the U.S. Army. Al was an engineer for GM out of Lockport as well as in Detroit for 40 years until his retirement in 2001. He married Hannelore Stocker, who survives. 



Alan was an avid boater, he was a member of the Buffalo Maritime Center as well as the Buffalo Launch Club and Buffalo Yacht Club. He was also active in the Buffalo Rotary Club, and was a past member of the North Amherst Volunteer Fire Co. He loved to travel, especially with his wife Hannelore, and always loved to ski. He was a longtime member of HoliMont in Ellicottville. He truly loved all of what Ellicottville was. 

Besides his devoted wife of 26 years, Alan is survived by daughters Kim (Tom) Dean of PA, Pam Bowman of East Amherst, Cindy (Robert) Burnett of TX, and Debbie (Greg) Honsberger of East Amherst. Also surviving is a step-daughter Catrina (Bernie) Kopell of CA, and a step-son Errol (Stephanie) Honadle of Niagara Falls. He is also survived by his mother-in-law Anna Nikisch of Buffalo, a sister-in-law Margaret Stocker of FL, Margaret Griffin of Hamburg, ten grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. 

Besides his parents, Alan is predeceased by a brother, Norman Stocker and a grandchild, Ryan Dean.

A memorial mass will be held at a later date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Buffalo Maritime Center or the Buffalo Rotary Club.

Arrangements are under the direction of Mentley Funeral Home Inc., 411 Rock City St. in Little Valley.
