Tri-County Arts Council Announces Spring Classes


The Tri-County Arts Council, 110 W. State St., Olean, is always adding artists to Artist Market, and is open to the public noon-6:00pm Tuesday to Friday, and noon-5:00pm Saturday.

Live Drawing: April 16th from 6:00-8:00PM; $10 Artisan Members and Above; $15 Basic/Family Members and Non-Members; student scholarships available; age 12+. Join in a live drawing session with a costumed model. The class will start with some gesture drawing and move to a longer pose. Please note this is not a class with a teacher, but an opportunity to practice your drawing.

Wire Bending - Rainbow Casting Heart Catcher: April 20, 2024 from 1:00-3:00pm. Cost: $25 Artisan Members & Above; $35 Basic/Family Members & Non-Members. Materials Fee: $5. Age: 16+. SerenHippity is excited to invite the community and crafty artists alike out for a unique craft class at Tri-County Arts Council to create a one-of-a-kind wire bent hanging Heart Catcher that casts beautiful rainbow scattering colors in your home or spaces alike. Experience the fun and creativity behind creating a unique catcher for your home, garden, or outside in a tree. Just add direct sunlight and watch it shine stunning rainbow casting reflections that create a play of colors and lights all around you. Join us as we help guide your creativity into something beautiful and special for you or that special someone in your life for a fun and unique class together.

SBDC: Business Plan Writing for the Entrepreneurial Artist: April 23, 2024 with Scott Miller from 6:00-7:30pm. Cost: FREE Artisan Members & Above; $10 Basic/Family Members & Non-Members. Age: 18+. The business training class for artists is a crucial resource for creatives venturing into the entrepreneurial realm. This comprehensive program addresses the unique challenges artists face when starting a business. Participants learn to articulate their artistic vision, define their target market, and assess potential revenue streams.  The curriculum delves into the significance of building a strong presence and effective marketing strategies tailored to the art industry. The course also guides participants in setting realistic goals, planning for the future, and developing strategies to adapt to the evolving art market.

Artist’s Creative Corner: April 18, 2024 from 6:00-8:00pm. Cost: FREE Artisan Members & Above; $10 Basic/Family Members & Non-Members. If you are a member, please contact us to be added to the list. Age: 12+. Welcome to “Artist’s Creative Corner” – a vibrant community where artists gather to engage in meaningful conversations, share insights, and provide constructive critiques. Whether you’re a seasoned artist or just starting on your creative journey, this group is a supportive space for discussing techniques, exploring new ideas, and offering feedback on each other’s work. Join us in fostering a collaborative environment that encourages growth, inspiration, and the celebration of diverse artistic expressions. Let your creativity thrive as we embark on this collective journey of artistic exploration and dialogue. All art levels, styles and mediums are welcome!

Coil Pots with Peter Jones: April 24, May 1 & 8, 2024 from: 6:00-8:00pm. Cost: $120 Artisan Members & Above; $140 Basic/Family Members & Non-Members. Age: 16+. Peter Jones is a renowned potter, who studied under Hopi artist, Otellie Loloma, while attending the Institute of American Indian Art in New Mexico. His pottery is admired and collected by community members, Native American art collectors, and museums across the country and internationally. Don’t miss this awesome opportunity to learn ins and outs of make a coil pot from the wonderful Peter Jones.

Writing Poetry with Tara Walker: April 27, 2024 from 1:00-3:00pm. Cost: $25 Artisan Members & Above; $35 Basic/Family Members & Non-Members. Age: 12+. A poem can be found anywhere. In this class, we’ll go looking for them. In headlines, in crossword puzzles, in paintings, under tables, and through doors. It’s a myth to think that you have to be “inspired” to write poetry. All you have to do is pay attention. Bring an open mind and your favorite notebook, a pen or pencil. We can supply you with paper or writing supplies if you need.

Wildlife Photography at Pfeiffer Nature Center: April 28, 2024 with Dan Jordan from 10:00am-12:00pm. Cost: $25 Artisan Members & Above; $35 Basic/Family Members & Non-Members. Host: Pfeiffer Nature Center, 1974 Lillibridge Road Portville, NY 14770. Two-hour instruction covering wildlife photography for beginners. The class covers the basics of photography, camera settings for wildlife photos, and tips and tricks from a professional. The instructor is Dan Jordan, local professional photographer, who specializes in wildlife photography.  Dan’s award-winning images are frequently published in the Olean Times Herald, Bradford Era, and Wellsville Sun newspapers. His works have been used in marketing materials by the National Eagle Center and other wildlife refuges and parks. Bring your cameras to the session!

Writers Room: April 30, 2024 from 6:00-8:00pm. Cost: FREE Artisan Members & Above; $10 Basic/Family Members & Non-Members. Age: 15+. TCAC is thrilled to announce the newly established Writer’s Room. The Writer’s Room is a forum for all writers such as poets, fiction writers, playwrights, and screenplay writers to commune, share work, teach, and learn.  Whether you are a seasoned writer or just starting on your writing journey, you are welcome.  We welcome anyone interested in writing starting at age 15.
