SPRINGVILLE - The Hot Club of Buffalo is a six-time award winning "Best World Jazz Group" as voted on JazzBuffalo.org, and will be performing at Art’s Cafe in Springville on Saturday, October 11th at 7:00pm. They are a four-piece Gypsy jazz band that brings a modern twist to traditional rhythmic swing. Dancing and musical improvisation are a part of every show, making them each unique and unexpected. This performance is being presented by Springville Center for the Arts.

The band consists of Joshua Assad (singer and guitarist), Kevin O’Brien (upright bass), E.J. Koeppel (jazz violinist), and Dean Gionis (classical guitarist). Joshua was a founding member of the Gypsy Jazz band, Babik, where they won seven Buffalo music awards and performed with several symphony orchestras, including the BPO. Kevin was also a member of Babik and a number of other groups. He toured nationally and internationally with Big Wheelie & the Hubcaps, Dempsey Station, and The Jazzabels. His song, “Chipotle”, on Babik’s ‘American Gypsy’ album received airplay on radio stations throughout America.

E.J. has toured with Liza Minnelli, Dudley Moore, and recorded with Jeffrey Arthur. He is currently one of the most sought-after musicians in the Buffalo area for both jazz and classical music. Dean decided later in life to unplug and study classical guitar. In 2005 he formed the group, Djambossa, playing a blend of Bossa Nova, Flamenco, and Gypsy Jazz. Dean continues to perform with both Djambossa and Hot Club of Buffalo, sharing his love for the Gypsy Jazz scene on a wider scale.

See Hot Club of Buffalo at Art’s Cafe on Saturday, October 11th at 7:00pm. Art’s Cafe is located at 5 East Main Street, Springville, NY. Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door. Purchase online at SpringvilleArts.org or call the box office at 716-592-9038.
