Bob McCarthy Foundation Helps Launch First-Ever ECS Dance Team

The Bob McCarthy Foundation has helped make history at Ellicottville Central School by funding full-length studio mirrors for the district’s first-ever dance team. With proper equipment, dedicated coaching, and excited students, the club is already rehearsing hip hop and jazz routines and preparing for future competitions.

ELLICOTTVILLE - The Bob McCarthy Foundation has provided help in creating the first ever Ellicottville Central School Dance Team! Over the summer, Meghan Emborsky (head coach and middle/high school Spanish teacher) had the idea to create a dance team but needed to purchase special full-length mirrors to help give the students the right environment for dance instruction.

Meghan’s dance class meets twice a month on Saturdays from 9:00-11:00am for rehearsals. These rehearsals involve conditioning workouts and choreography in different dance styles.  They have started the year with a fusion of hip hop and jazz. One of the members, Lillian McCarthy said, "These mirrors are awesome because you actually get to see yourself dancing which helps you learn better.”

Head coach Meghan says, "These mirrors are crucial to providing the appropriate setting for this club's activities. They allow us to transition a gymnasium into a dance studio with ease and have been incredibly helpful to have for our rehearsals. We are excited to show the foundation what their support has helped us to create at the upcoming Bob McCarthy’s Irish Christmas on December 5th at EBC.”

The students who have joined so far are enjoying their experience and have a goal of taking one of their dances to a competition event. They also hope to start learning other styles such as modern, lyrical, and ballet in the spring.

Meghan and the team thank the Bob McCarthy Foundation for the generous donation of these mirrors!
