Haunted Library Returns to Ellicottville This October

From the return of Escape the Haunted Library to weekly story time, crafts, a Farm Market and plenty of new books, the Ellicottville Memorial Library has a full slate of October activities.

October is shaping up to be a busy month at the Ellicottville Memorial Library, with a little something for everyone - from Halloween scares and children’s story time to weekly crafts, fresh produce, and plenty of new books for fall reading.

One of the month’s highlights will be the return of Escape the Haunted Library, now in its fifth year. The Halloween escape room will take over the library on Friday and Saturday, October 23-24 from 6:00-9:30pm. Participants can gather a team and put their problem-solving skills to the test as they attempt to escape the library in just 30 minutes. The event is free, but reservations are required. Those interested can reserve a time slot by calling the library at 716-699-2842.

For families with younger children, the library’s weekly Story Time continues Wednesdays at 9:30am with Dr. Kate. Each session includes stories, a sing-along, and crafts centered around a different theme. Following the October 7 theme of “Sick and Get Well”, the October 14 and 21 sessions will focus on fall, while a Halloween theme is planned for October 28.

Adults looking for a creative outlet can stop in for Crafts with Cathy, held every Tuesday from 2:00-3:00pm. The weekly program gives participants an opportunity to spend an afternoon creating different pieces of art at the library.

The library is also serving as a stop for FeedMore WNY’s Farm Market, bringing fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables directly to Ellicottville. The next market is scheduled for Saturday, October 24 from 10:00-11:00am, with additional visits planned for November 14 and 28. All produce is priced under $5, and the market is open to the public. Cash, debit and credit cards, tap-to-pay and SNAP/EBT are accepted, with SNAP/EBT purchases receiving 50% off.

And, of course, fall is always a good time to find a new book. Recent arrivals at the library include The Thoroughbreds by Elin Hilderbrand, The Pirate Queen by Ariel Lawhon, Fury in Death by J.D. Robb, The True Meaning of Love by Danielle Steel, Exit Party by Emily St. John Mandel, and The Tainted Cup by Robert Jackson Bennett.

The Ellicottville Memorial Library is located at 6499 Maples Road. Regular hours are Monday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 10:00am-5:00pm, and Tuesday and Wednesday from 10:00am-8:00pm. The library is closed Sundays and will also be closed October 10 and October 12 for the holiday weekend. For additional information about October programs, to register for Escape the Haunted Library, or to learn more about other services available at the library, call 716-699-2842.
