Mansfield Community Center to Host Pumpkin Painting Party Oct. 25
Former fire hall welcomes families for an afternoon of FREE Halloween fun
The former Mansfield Fire Hall is finding new life as a gathering place for the community, and this Sunday, October 25, everyone is invited to stop by for a little Halloween fun.
Now named the Mansfield Community Center, it will play host to a free Pumpkin Painting Party from 4:00-6:00pm, welcoming kids and their families of all ages to get creative and celebrate the season. Pumpkins, paints, and all necessary supplies will be provided, along with refreshments. Participants are also welcome to bring their own pumpkins if they'd like. There is no cost to attend, although donations are always appreciated.
The event is one of several activities being organized by the Mansfield Community Center Board, a group of volunteers working to give the former fire hall a renewed purpose. According to Board Secretary Lynn Telaak, the building has been available for community gatherings for years, but a more organized effort to promote and improve the space began when the former fire company turned it over to the Board at the beginning of this year.
Since then, volunteers have been busy making improvements, including fresh paint inside and out, roof repairs, and other updates. Their goal is simple: encourage more people to take advantage of a building that's already part of the community.
The center is available to anyone looking for a place to host a family gathering, birthday party, reception, educational program or any other event. There is currently no set rental fee; use of the building is offered on a donation basis.
"We would love for groups to come," Telaak said. “We host a Community Social here the 3rd Tuesday of every month from 2:00-4:00pm, and we’re hoping to introduce more seasonal activities. We’re also hoping to bring back the Mansfield Ham & Turkey Party.”
For now, Sunday's Pumpkin Painting Party offers a chance for families to enjoy a fun afternoon while getting acquainted with a community space that has plenty of potential. The event takes place this Sunday, October 25 from 4:00-6:00pm at the Mansfield Community Center, located in the former Mansfield Fire Hall, 7690 Maples Rd.
