MSG Gear, Beer & Movie Premiere Returns to Support Adaptive Skiing in WNY
Mud, Sweat n’ Gears teams up with 42 North Brewing for a family-friendly celebration of winter sports, live music, a film premiere, and raffle prizes, all to support adaptive skiing in Western New York.
Mud, Sweat n’ Gears, a beloved outdoor outfitter serving Ellicottville and surrounding communities, is teaming up with 42 North Brewing Company to host the 5th annual Gear, Beer & Movie Premiere event. Designed to raise awareness for adaptive sports and promote inclusive ski programs, the event marks the official kickoff to the winter sports season. It will take place at 42 North Brewing Company in East Aurora on November 23rd from 1:00-6:00pm.
“We wanted to bring the community together and generate a buzz about the upcoming ski and snowboard season by hosting a big, family-friendly party,” said Kimberly Reading, co-owner of Mud, Sweat n’ Gears, on the origins of the event. “In addition, we also wanted to raise money for adaptive skiing in Western New York.” Through raffles alone, the event has raised over $10,000 for local adaptive ski programs.
Shortly after Mud, Sweat n’ Gears opened its second location in East Aurora, local business owners John and Cathy Cimperman paid a visit to welcome them into the local business community. Being avid skiers with a passion to support local businesses, there was an instant connection between the two brands.
Members at 42 North Brewing Company have been key supporters of adaptive ski programs in the Western New York region. “When our neighbors at Mud, Sweat n’ Gears approached us about partnering on the event, we were all in,” says founder of 42 North, John Cimperman.
The event will feature live music oriented around the sounds of reggae, funk, and jam-style music. Olmstead Dub System, based in Buffalo, will be another familiar face at the event this year. A staple in the Western New York music scene, Olmstead Dub System packs uplifting vibes and authentic reggae spirit to every stage they are welcomed to. They will be performing from 2:00-5:00pm.
A new feature guests can enjoy this year is a movie premiere: Out of the Ordinary, presented by Head Ski and Tyrolia Freeskiing. The film is a deep dive into lodge life misadventures, impulsive strike missions, DIY jump zones, team bonds, pure powdery stoke, and endless ski touring days all over the world.
Reading anticipates a strong turnout this year, especially with raffle prizes totaling $7,000. The grand prize includes a two-night stay at the award-winning Mirror Lake Inn in Lake Placid and four midweek lift tickets to Whiteface Resort, valued at $1,500. Raffle tickets are available at both Mud, Sweat n’ Gears locations, with all proceeds supporting adaptive skiing programs in Western New York.
Local companies including Holiday Valley, HoliMont, Peek’n Peak, Swain, and Kissing Bridge will be at the event to offer their support through sharing insights and providing information on their highly respectable winter seasons. Each organization will have a representative with information regarding lift ticket options and the upcoming season. There will also be a collection of local vendors selling various merchandise, including ski/snowboarding gear, lift tickets, and season passes.
With its blend of community spirit, winter sports enthusiasm, and commitment to inclusiveness, the Gear, Beer & Movie Premiere continues to grow as a fixture in Western New York’s welcoming of the winter season. Whether you're a seasoned skier, a music lover, film enthusiast, or simply looking to support a great cause, this celebration offers something for everyone, and a chance to make the slopes more accessible for all.
