12 Local Graduates Awarded Gregory D. Spring Perseverance Scholarship
Twelve students from area high schools receive support for college and trade school through a scholarship honoring the legacy of Gregory D. Spring.
OLEAN, N.Y., July 23 – Twelve recent area graduates recently receive the Gregory D. Spring Perseverance Scholarship, an annual scholarship managed by the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation.
William Slavinski, Trinity Garrey and Collin Mooney, all of Franklinville/Ten Broeck Academy, and Allegany-Limestone’s Quincy Stebbins and Zander Parsons received awards this year.
Joining them are Portville’s Zya DeGolier and Daniel Fowler, Olean’s Autumn Cassford, Jacksen Kahm and Noah Gallo, Ellicottville’s Maddox Johnson and Hinsdale’s Daphne Gobien.
Established in memory of Gregory Spring of Allegany by his family, this scholarship is available to graduating seniors of Olean High School, Allegany-Limestone, Portville, Ten Broeck Academy/Franklinville Central School, Ellicottville Central School and Hinsdale Central schools pursuing a degree or certification, preferable, in a trade or technical program.
Slavinski plans to study heavy equipment operations at Alfred State College. Garrey plans to attend SUNY Cobleskill to study canine training and management. Mooney plans to study electrical construction at Alfred State College.
Stebbins will attend SUNY Geneseo to study early childhood education. Parsons plans to study sports and recreation management at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford. DeGolier plans to attend St. Bonaventure University to study journalism. Fowler plans to study physical education at SUNY Brockport.
Cassford plans to attend Jamestown Community College to study business administration. Kahm plans to study nursing at Alfred State College. Gallo plans to attend Alfred State College.
Johnson plans to attend Paul Smith’s College to study fish and wildlife sciences. Gobien plans to study English at Alfred University.
The Spring scholarship has made possible over $72,000 in support for area students over the years.
