Eldred WWII Museum Hosts 8th Annual Golf Tournament

Eldred WWII Museum will host their annual golf tour Saturday, July 27th

Get ready to tee off for a great cause at the Eldred World War II Museum’s eighth annual golf tournament, happening Saturday, July 27th at Bolivar Country Club. Whether you’re a seasoned golfer or just love supporting local history, this event promises a day of friendly competition, community spirit, and a chance to honor the legacy of those who bravely served our country - all from the green. Mark your calendar, grab your clubs, and join the mission to preserve and promote WWII history!

The scramble-style tournament is open to the first 32 teams to register (four people to a team) and includes 18 holes of golf, a cart, an orange ball challenge game, breakfast, lunch at the turn, one raffle ticket for a door prize, a t-shirt and a beef-on-weck dinner ticket. Registration begins at 9:00am with a tee-off at 10:00am. Prize opportunities take place throughout the day: closest to the pin, longest drive, straightest drive, second shot closest to the pin, longest putt, casino holes, ring of fire, and more. To hold your spot in the tournament, pre-register and pay ($80 per person or $320 per team) online via the QR code. Questions? Contact the museum at 814-225-2220 or email info@eldredpawwiimuseum.com.

The museum is once again hosting a basket raffle in conjunction with the golf tournament and dinner. Great items have already been donated, including a signed cleat from Buffalo Bills player Dawson Knox! Donations of merchandise and gift certificates from local businesses and sponsors can be made any time before July 22nd. Contact the museum at 814-225-2220 to make arrangements for donations. Extra dinner tickets for $15 each can be purchased in advance by calling or visiting the Bolivar Golf Club (585-928-1266) or the museum. While the museum is located at 210 Main St. in Eldred, PA, the tournament takes place just over the border in New York. Bolivar Golf Club is located at 8212 County Road 5C in Bolivar, NY.

“This is our annual fundraiser, and it’s our biggest fundraiser that we do every year,” said Executive Director Liz Threehouse. “All the money goes towards the museum, keeping us open, and everything else.” Eldred, Pennsylvania played an important part in World War II, as it was home to the National Munitions Company plant, which employed some 1,500 people throughout the war, the majority of whom were women after the men enlisted. Since it opened in 1996, the museum has honored the men and women whose work supported the war effort - both at home and overseas - and continues to preserve and share the history of World War II.

Importantly, the museum receives all of its support from donations, which help maintain the museum and daily operations, as well as support educational programs for visitors and local schools. The museum had over 5,500 visitors in 2024 and is continuing to grow. Thanks to past support from donors and fundraisers, the museum has added new technology to their displays and has exciting plans for a new subscription project, War Stories V-Mail, to be launched on June 10th. Through this monthly service, subscribers will learn about WWII history through the real stories of those who experienced it. Each month, open your mailbox (yes, your physical mailbox!) for an envelope containing the real story of a WWII veteran’s or home-front person’s story, including a variety of replica artifacts: historic papers, maps, news articles, postcards, photos, and more. The mailing will also include something extra, like custom stickers, patches, magnets and other items. Sign up today at www.warstoriesvmail.com.

Threehouse invites the community to the museum’s upcoming event, the Greatest LOST Generation, on Thursday, June 12th at 6:30pm at the museum (201 Main St., Eldred, PA). “Brigadier General Arthur G. Austin, Jr. is going to be speaking on the greatest lost generation, and it’s about the experience of people of color in World War II,” Threehouse explained.
