Three days of live music, classic cars and a new Craft Show & Farmers Market bring the community together for Ellicottville’s annual fall kickoff
Sorry, Cleveland, but the heart of Rock N’ Roll is in Ellicottville as we prepare for the 27th annual Rock N’ Roll Weekend September 11-13! Over the course of three days, eighteen performers from across Western New York will take to the stage at some of the village’s most iconic bars and restaurants, bringing in visitors and locals alike to hear good tunes, eat great food, and let the good times roll. Speaking of “roll,” don’t miss the ever-popular car and truck show, and - new for this year - the Craft Show and Farmers Market, which will draw in even more of a crowd than in years past.
EllicottvilleNOW got the inside scoop on what to expect with this year’s edition of Rock N’ Roll Weekend from Barb Pump, Executive Director of the Ellicottville Chamber of Commerce. “This event started in 1999,” Pump told us. “It was created to bring people into town to showcase what Ellicottville has to offer while being able to enjoy live music and great cars to bring back some nostalgia.”
Over the course of the festival’s solid history, several notable regional acts have graced the stages of Ellicottville, including one of the fan favorites, Terry Buchwald, explained Pump. “One of the acts that has returned each year and makes everyone get on their feet to dance has been Terry Buchwald, an Elvis impersonator that puts smiles on faces and gets everyone's hips shaking.”
This year’s lineup includes Mr. Buchwald, of course, along with 17 other artists performing multiple genres across town, including venues such as Holiday Valley Resort, Mill Street Sports
Pub, Balloons, Madigan’s, and Villaggio. The festivities kick off Thursday, September 10 with the addition of Ed and Tina Croft performing at Mill Street Sports Pub at 6:00pm for Bike
Night, followed by a lineup of rock stars on Friday night, starting with Campfire Junkies at
Holiday Valley Resort at 5:30pm, the Patt Harrington Trio at Balloon’s at 6:30pm, and Impact at the Gin Mill at 8:00pm.
“Saturday will kick off with a vendor pop-up event that was added this year to entice visitors to stay the weekend,” added Pump. “There will be live music at the gazebo by Necessary Experience from 1:00-3:00pm, then on Sunday, the vendors are back along with the annual car show that brings in so many classics, modified, and antique cars and more. At 1:00pm Terry Buchwald is back at the gazebo to perform everyone's favorites.”
The annual car and truck show is a must-see and one of the most visited events over the weekend, culminating with an Awards Show including the coveted honor of Best in Show on Sunday, Sept. 13 at 4:00pm..
“This is an annual event that happens every September to give visitors an opportunity to enjoy the beginning of fall and for the businesses to release their fall and winter menu items and new retail products,” Pump said. “We have about 200-250 cars that participate in the car show each year, and the cars that participate definitely show why this car show makes people want to come and spend the day.”
Organizers expect 3,000-5,000 visitors to pass through over the weekend. In addition to the free performances and car and truck show, new for this year is the Craft Show & Farmers Market which will showcase local vendors and artisans. “We have had a craft show Summer Music Festival weekend and of course we have Fall Festival, and I thought this may be a great way to bring in some of our local members and crafters to add some freshness to an event that is a staple in this community,” explained Pump. “Some of our vendors include chamber members, like the Winery of Ellicottville, Ellicottville Distillery, and Lucky Day Homestead.”
