Spookley’s 25th anniversary, new attractions, farmyard fun and returning fall favorites headline Pumpkinville’s 2026 season
This weekend, Pumpkinville is opening for the 2026 season, and there’s a lot of fun in store for new and returning visitors alike! The oldest pumpkin farm in New York state, Pumpkinville is located at 4844 Sugartown Road in Great Valley, and has been family-owned for generations. This year’s theme is centered around the anniversary of Spookley the Square Pumpkin, who turns 25 this year. In addition to Spookley highlights, Pumpkinville is bringing back many beloved traditions and some newer favorites. Open daily 9:00am-7:00pm from September 12 through October 31, Pumpkinville is ready to welcome visitors for another fun season!
Spookley is the title character of author Joe Troiano’s 2001 children’s book, The Legend of Spookley the Square Pumpkin. Spookley, who is teased by the round pumpkins on his farm because of his shape, discovers that what makes him different also makes him special, and the whole patch learns an important lesson about accepting and celebrating differences. Lisa Pawlowski, whose family owns Pumpkinville, explained, “Spookley’s design will be featured in our corn maze, but we are also going to have special Spookley things throughout Pumpkinville.” These include a Spookley scavenger hunt with weekly drawings for prizes, a large inflatable Spookley by the corn maze entrance (great for photos!), and Spookley gifts available for sale.
Pawlowski looks forward to sharing new activities with visitors this season. “My pet project for the last couple of years has been putting together what we’re calling our Farmyard Friends Factory, which is not the same brand as but the same idea as Build-a-Bear,” she explained. While the building for stuffing a farmyard friend is open Friday through Sunday, the activity is available with a staff member anytime throughout the week. There are several different animals to choose from, including farm animals, fantasy creatures, and even a pumpkin bear called Jack O’Lantern, who has his own Pumpkinville tee and comes with a little bag bearing the Pumpkinville logo.
New food options and attractions are in store this year, too. Pumpkinville is introducing a brand-new food service building: the Coop & Crust, which is open during the weekends and offers pizza, chicken tenders, and loaded potato barrels. Pawlowski shared, “Our singing tractor, Tractor Mac, got a girlfriend this year, so he now sings duets with a pink tractor named Daisy on the farm… She came all the way from Chicago, and now she’s here on the farm with us.” To see a video of Mac and Daisy singing together, visit Pumpkinville’s social media.
Returning favorites include the corn barn, farm animals, the beer garden, the pumpkin patch, apple blasters, the cow train, gem mining, and more. The only activity that is discontinued is the weekend chicken barbecues, as that area has been replaced with the new food service building. Eric Jones, 2023 Guinness World Record holder for carving the world’s largest jack-o’-lantern and winner of Food Network’s third season of Outrageous Pumpkins, is returning to Pumpkinville with carving demonstrations every Sunday (except Oct. 11). “We’re excited to have him back this year,” said Pawlowski. “We’ve built a great relationship with him over the years… And the nice thing is, he leaves whatever he carves, so even if people can’t make it on a Sunday, they can still see what he did when he was here.” She added that each year, Jones creates something different and adds to it as the season goes on. “He interacts with kids and families and gives them access to the tools that he uses and has pumpkins there that they can try some of the techniques he shows them, which is really neat!”
As always, there is no admission fee to enter Pumpkinville’s farm market/food service picnic area. Admission is required for entry to the Farmyard Fun activity area for everyone ages 3-79.
