Great Aunt Brings Australian Folk Duo to Art’s Cafe September 19

Award-winning Australian duo Great Aunt makes its Springville debut with an evening of folk, bluegrass and original music

SPRINGVILLE - Australian duo Megan Bird and Chelsea Allen have spent several years carving out a sound that is “deeply felt, revealing, and relatable” (The Bluegrass Situation). Rooted in folk and bluegrass, their music is known to take a step beyond the traditions of the genre making them “a duo you need to know” (The Bluegrass Situation). They will be performing in Springville for the first time at Art’s Cafe on September 19 at 7:00pm. Presented by Springville Center for the Arts.

In 2024, Great Aunt was named Folk Alliance Australia Duo of the Year. Their music grabs audiences attention, being described as “poignant and empowering” (Wax Vinyl Records) while embodying “lyrical wit and rhythmic dexterity” (Adeem the Artist). With Bird on mandolin, resonator, acoustic guitar and vocals, and Allen on double bass, vocals and percussion, together they create a “personal and shared revival” of connection, making their performance unique and memorable (The Bluegrass Situation).

They have shared the stage in previous U.S tours with musician Joe Crookston who performed at Art’s Cafe this last Spring. Great Aunt recently released a debut full-length album titled It’s All Downhill From Here which they will be performing from in September.
