Happy Half, 5K & Beer Mile Returns to Holiday Valley This May

From colorful costumes and playful surprises to competitive racing and crowd-favorite fun, this Holiday Valley event has something for everyone.

Spring running season gets a colorful, high-energy kickoff on May 9 as the Happy Half, 5K & Beer Mile returns to Holiday Valley Resort. Blending fitness, fun, and a festive atmosphere, this event has built a reputation for being anything but your typical race day.

Coming in hot with a whole lot of personality, the Happy Half, 5K & Beer Mile delivers a full-on celebration. Think bright colors, big smiles, cool costumes, and a course designed to keep things light, upbeat, and just plain fun from start to finish.

Yes, there’s a half marathon. Yes, there’s a 5K. But this event leans into the idea that running should be approachable and enjoyable for everyone. Along the course, participants can expect playful surprises that break up the miles and keep spirits high - moments that might make you laugh out loud or forget you’re even racing. It’s the kind of event where tutus, neon gear, and costume creativity are not only welcome, -they’re encouraged! - and where crowd energy plays just as big a role as endurance.

Runners of all levels will find something to love, whether they’re chasing a personal record or simply out to soak up the atmosphere. The course itself is well-marked and supported, offering a smooth and safe experience for all. And at the finish line, participants are rewarded with a custom collectible finisher’s medal, super-soft race shirt, chip timing for those tracking performance, and a well-earned recovery snack bag.

The celebration doesn’t end there. Adding a playful twist to the day is the Southern Tier Beer Mile, sponsored by Southern Tier Brewing Company. This fan-favorite challenge combines running with a bit of refreshment. Participants complete laps on a short course, stopping to enjoy a beer between each lap. It can be tackled solo or as a relay, and it’s equal parts competition and comedy. For spectators, it’s easily one of the most entertaining parts of the day, drawing plenty of laughs and cheers.

Whether you’re lacing up your running shoes or just coming out to cheer, the Happy Half 5K & Beer Mile promises a day filled with energy, community spirit, and plenty of memorable moments. For more information or to register, visit happyhalfrun.com.
