Beloved father, educator, entrepreneur and lifelong learner remembered for his adventurous spirit and passion for teaching

On Monday, August 31, 2026, Joseph Alfred Doro, 71, died peacefully with his children and their partners by his side, singing and praying him off.
Joe was born on January 17, 1955, in Buffalo, NY, to Alfred and Mary Anne Doro. He is the brother of Jim, Holly (Warters), Chip, and the late Mike Doro. Joe proudly attended Cornell University, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Biology in 1977 and a Master of Teaching in 1979. At Cornell, he met and fell deeply in love with his former wife, Deborah Doro. Married in 1980, Joe and Debby would go on to raise six children in East Amherst and Ellicottville.
He is survived by his six kids, their partners, and his five grandchildren: Justin, Nathaniel (wife Kristy, Vita, and Cal), Matthew (partner Kindra, Spruce and River), Allie (husband Jordan Cessna and Livia), Sam (fiancé Ellen), and Hannah (fiancé Ben).
From dry cleaning to painting, Joe endured struggles and success as an entrepreneur and eventually returned to his great calling, teaching. Joe spent his last years of work as an educator, passing his knowledge in biology, technology, farming, and engineering to hundreds of lucky students.
Joe’s family will always cherish his spirit. Joe’s big, loud, and contagious spirit of adventure, along with his passion for learning, supportive nature, and gift for problem-solving, will follow him for years to come.
No specific service arrangements have been made, as his request was that all would honor him by going for a walk in the woods and taking time to look more closely, as his family would often do with Joe, at every tree, leaf, and flower.
