Musical Comedy Lumberjacks in Love Brings Laughter to Springville Center for the Arts
The hit musical comedy Lumberjacks in Love brings music, laughter, and Northwoods charm to Springville’s newly renovated Carol Mongerson Theater.
SPRINGVILLE - Traveling from the midwest to the northeast, Lumberjacks in Love is a musical comedy filled with northern humor and fun-loving songs. This parody takes place in the Northwoods in 1912, where a camp of burly lumberjacks revel in their bachelor lives as the only civilization for hundreds of miles - until, a special delivery named Rose shows up and turns their whole world upside down. Performances will take place in the Carol Mongerson Theater at Springville Center for the Arts November 13-15th and 21st-22nd at 7:00pm, and November 23rd at 2:00pm.
From the creators of Guys on Ice, Fred Alley and James Kaplan, Lumberjacks in Love echoes a similar “delight to audiences” with its “tender humanity and humor” (BroadwayWorld). Guys on Ice performed with Springville Center for the Arts under the direction of Edwin F. Heary in 2010. Fast forward fifteen years later and he is now the director for Lumberjacks in Love. Other members of the production team include Rick Manzone as Producer, Kim Higgins and Roz Warren as Music Directors, Lisa Watkins as Choreographer, Kevin Kujawa as Lighting/Sound Designer, Joe Lowry as Lighting/Sound Technician, Jeff Issler as Consultant, and Bill McGirr as Set Design/Construction.
The show premiered in 1996 as one of the earliest and most successful collaborations between Alley and Kaplan, making it “irresistible” for any audience (BroadwayWorld). “The laughs keep on rolling… like lumber down the river.” (Shepherd Express). The cast features Brayton Wilson as Minnesota Slim; Samantha Hunt as The Kid; Mark Bouquin as Moonlight; Golden Groves as Dirty Bob; Tyler “Thor” Moody as Muskrat; Ashley Lowry as Rosemary Rogers; Mark Mendola, John Spero, Gary Hanley, Kim Higgins, and Roz Warren as the Ensemble.
Cast member, Mark Bouquin, is a world champion timbersportman from Springville. He has appeared on network television shows that highlight his lumberjack abilities. Mark has traveled around the world in timbersports competitions, worked his way up in the sport, and became a world champion in 2024.
The Carol Mongerson Theater recently reopened for use after a multi-year period of renovations. The renovations provide critical theater support spaces for upcoming productions, and an updated orientation of the venue to increase audiences' viewing pleasure. While still lacking permanent seating and other amenities, the Mongerson Theater can presently house up to 120 people with their temporary seating. Springville Center for the Arts launched a Theater Seat Campaign, inviting the public to dedicate a chair in the theater to an individual or loved one. For a $1,000 contribution, their name will be engraved on the seat and will support the organization by providing permanent seating for their theater. Only 15 seats are left. If interested in the Theater Seat Campaign, please contact scaseth@gmail.com or call Springville Center for the Arts.
The Carol Mongerson Theater is located at 37 North Buffalo Street, Springville, NY. Tickets are $20 for adults, $17 for students/seniors, and are available online at SpringvilleArts.org or by calling 716-592-9038.
