Fall Adventures at Allegany State Park: (2025 Schedule)

Celebrate the season at Allegany State Park with guided tours, outdoor adventures, art workshops, and family-friendly nature programs this fall.

Fall Fun at Allegany State Park

SALAMANCA - Allegany State Park is described as a foliage paradise with amazing fall colors, but it is also a great time to get out and explore nature as it prepares for the coming winter season. There is so much more to do in the fall, though, than to look at the leaves. Join park educators for an eventful Fall programming schedule.

October 1: Visitors can take part in a Thunder Rocks Tour at 1:00pm, a guided walk to see the leaves at their peak and explore the park’s unique rock formations.

October 3: Join us for mountain biking at 2:00pm. Advanced and beginners are welcome and can meet certified mountain biking instructors at the Summit Warming Hut. Helmets are required to participate. If you need to borrow a bike please text 716-265-8366 to reserve.

October 6: Capture the beautiful colors of fall with a water coloring painting class at the Beehunter Picnic Pavilion at 3:00pm. No experience is necessary. Return in the evening from 6:00-7:30pm to enjoy a full moon walk and learn about the changing of the moon phases.

October 9: Our wild edible plants class at 3:00pm will meet at the entrance to Macintosh Cabin Trail for the start of the program. Learn how to distinguish edible plants from poisonous ones.

October 15: Learn about the awesome opossum beginning at 10:00am at the Beehunter Picnic Pavilion. Did you know they have superpowers? Learn about these often-misunderstood creatures, what they eat, how they help the environment, and how you can help them.

October 21: Go nuts for squirrels at the Beehunter Picnic Pavilion beginning at 10:00am. Did you know squirrels plant thousands of trees each year right here in Allegany State Park? Come and learn about why else they are so important to our forest ecosystem.

November 3: Learn the basics of watercolor painting with an instructor-led class at 3:00pm in the Red House Administration Lobby.

November 4: The Beaver Moon will be the feature of this evening walk that leaves from the Red House Administration Building at 6:00pm. This full moon is also the biggest and closest supermoon of the year, orbiting closer to Earth than any other full moon in 2025.

November 5: Come learn about the Butterflies of Allegany State Park. Park Educator and butterfly enthusiast Tom LeBlanc will guide participants through the butterflies that are found here and the research on the butterflies of the park. The presentation will take place at 1:00pm at the Camp Allegany Classroom

November 21: In partnership with the Citizens Preparedness Corps, Allegany State Park will present the NY Citizen Preparedness Training Program at 1:00pm at the Camp Allegany Classroom. With severe weather events becoming more frequent and more extreme, it is more important than ever that New Yorkers are prepared for disasters. The NY Citizen Preparedness Training Program teaches residents to have the tools and resources to prepare for any type of disaster, respond accordingly, and recover as quickly as possible to normal conditions. This training course will provide an introduction to responding to a natural or manmade disaster. Participants will be advised on how to properly prepare for any disaster, including developing a family emergency plan and stocking up on emergency supplies. Each family that attends will receive one preparedness kit. Registration is required to attend the event. To register visit www.prepare.ny.gov.

The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation oversees more than 250 parks, historic sites, recreational trails, golf courses, boat launches and more, and welcomes over 88 million visitors annually. For more information on any of these recreation areas, visit parks.ny.gov or call 518-474-0456.
