Game On: Ellicottville Lacrosse Festival Returns Sept. 20–21

Two days of competition, skill-building, and community spirit bring players and fans together at Village Park and the Chamber Fields.

The Ellicottville Lacrosse Festival returns this weekend, September 20th-21st, bringing together athletes, families, and fans for a weekend of high-energy competition and community celebration. Hosted by Powell Lacrosse and Summit Lacrosse Ventures in collaboration with the Ellicottville Chamber of Commerce, the festival will take place at the Ellicottville Village Park and the Chamber Fields at Holiday Valley.

The festival features six divisions, offering players of all ages - from grades 5 through varsity - the opportunity to participate in a weekend packed with matches and camaraderie. The event kicks off on Saturday with a free clinic and 3v3 event from 3:00-5:00pm, providing a chance for players to hone their skills and engage with the sport in a fun, informal setting.

For Ryan Powell, Syracuse lacrosse legend and co-founder of Powell Lacrosse, events like this are about much more than the game. “Lacrosse camps and festivals have always been a huge part of my life. It’s exciting to share that passion with the next generation, not just to build skills, but to build teamwork and confidence that carry into everyday life,” Powell said.

Barb Pump, Executive Director of the Ellicottville Chamber of Commerce, emphasizes the importance of community involvement. “The Ellicottville Lacrosse Festival is a wonderful opportunity for our village to showcase its hospitality and spirit,” she said. “Events like this not only bring visitors to our area, but also strengthen the bonds between local businesses, residents, and our youth.”

Beyond the action on the field, the Ellicottville Lacrosse Festival offers a unique opportunity for visitors to experience the charm and hospitality of Ellicottville. Our town is known for its worldly dining scene, boutique shopping, and outdoor recreation, making it an ideal destination for families attending the festival. From ziplining at Holiday Valley’s Sky High Adventure Park to downhill mountain biking at HoliMont to hiking, fishing, and canoeing at nearby Allegany State Park, those with an appetite for adventure have options after the final whistle. And to stay fueled between games, check out the restaurant guide on pages 08-09 of this week’s issue.

Whether you're a seasoned player, a young athlete, or just a fan of the sport, the Ellicottville Lacrosse Festival promises an exciting weekend filled with energy and plenty of action on and off the field. Don't miss out on this opportunity to witness some of the best of lacrosse in our region. Spectators encouraged!
