Ellicottville Fine Art Show Returns Labor Day Weekend for Third Year

Now in its third year, the Ellicottville Fine Art Show will bring together talented regional artists and craftspeople for a two-day juried exhibition over Labor Day weekend.

Mark your calendar for Labor Day weekend, because the Ellicottville Fine Art Show is returning with the area’s best artists and fine craftspeople! Now in its third year, the Ellicottville Fine Art Show, a juried show presented by the Tri-County Arts Council and Ellicottville Chamber of Commerce, is taking place from 10:00am-5:00pm on Saturday and Sunday, August 30th-31st on the lawn of the 1887 building at the corner of 1 Washington St. and Route 219. More than a dozen regional artists and craftspeople will be showcasing their work - a great opportunity to find a one-of-a-kind gift or new piece for your collection.

Megan Davis, who became Tri-County Arts Council’s (TCAC) executive director earlier this year, is looking forward to organizing her first Ellicottville Fine Art Show and welcomes all to this exciting event! Speaking of the types of artwork and fine crafts that will be available, Davis said, “We have everything from pottery to fine arts, like painting, artisan jewelry, photography, glass, leather, and more.”

The two-day fine art show is a juried show; Davis explained this year’s process: “The artists submitted their works and they were evaluated by a panel of judges or ‘jurors.’ In this case, it was our [TCAC] staff, so it was an in-house jury selection… That process ensures a certain standard of quality and expertise with the exhibition.”

Davis noted that the fine art show is the perfect opportunity to experience the wide range of talent and artistry in the region. TCAC, which was formally founded in 1997 was originally the Cattaraugus County Arts Council, and in 2018, the organization’s scope and mission expanded to serve two additional counties: Allegany and Chautauqua. Since that time, the Tri-County Arts Council has advocated for the creation and appreciation of arts in all three counties and throughout the southern tier. This year’s fine art show features 16 artists and craftspeople from this region, and all are returning artists from past fine art show events. While Davis is new to her role as TCAC executive director, she is not new to the organization, having served as assistant director to Mikel Wintermantel, executive director, emeritus, in 2021. Speaking of the upcoming fine art show, Davis said, “I’m excited because this is going to be a chance for me to meet one-on-one with artists that I have not had the chance to meet yet… I’m going to get a chance to be around them and their beautiful works for the weekend in a beautiful community, and I hope that we can really highlight the talent that we have here in our tri-county area and with the region.”

Davis’ goal is to provide an outstanding experience for the participating artists, as she noted the show is “a great exposure for them and the hard work that they do, and hopefully make visitors’ experience even more special here in Ellicottville during that weekend.”

TCAC continues to support artists and advocate for the arts in the region throughout the year. Davis noted, “The Ellicottville Fine Art Show will then segue into a beautiful gallery exhibition here at our facility [110 W. State St. in Olean], and it’s going to be the 20th anniversary of the Southern Tier Biennial Exhibition. It’s special and exciting that 20 years of this event has been in our area showcasing the region’s finest work.”
