James “Claude” Pump of Arcade Passes Away at 77

Arcade resident James “Claude” Pump, a retired Peerless Winsmith employee and devoted family man known for coaching youth sports and his love of Cleveland teams, passed away June 6 at the age of 77.


James "Claude" Pump, 77, of Arcade, passed away Saturday, June 6, 2026, at Buffalo General Hospital following a two-month illness.

Born Jan. 22, 1949, in Fremont, Ohio, Jim was the son of Jack and Jane Pump.

A 1967 graduate of Clyde High School in Ohio, Jim married Nancy Gibble on April 15, 1972. He worked for Peerless Winsmith in Springville for 39 years before retiring.

Jim enjoyed sports and reading, but his greatest passion was coaching his sons in baseball, football, and wrestling. He was also an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians and the Cleveland Browns.

In addition to his loving wife, Nancy, Jim is survived by his sons, Eriek (Barb) Pump and Ryan (Debbie) Pump; granddaughter, Adison (Joey Grohmann); grandson, Grayde; great-grandson, Waylen Claude; brothers, Jeff (Sharon) Pump and Jan (Amy) Pump; sister, Julia Koenig; and several nieces and nephews.

Jim was predeceased by his parents and brothers, Jay, Joe, and Jack Pump.
