Valley Ridge Direct Primary Care & Performance Physical Therapy Now Welcoming New Patients in Ellicottville
Drs. Stephanie and Joe Adamchak bring military and civilian medical experience home to Ellicottville with a relationship-focused care model.
If you’re interested in healthcare that prioritizes doctor-patient relationships over insurance restrictions and prioritizes your wellbeing over “assembly-line medicine,” then it’s time to give Valley Ridge Direct Primary Care and Performance Physical Therapy a try! Dr. Stephanie Adamchak, an Ellicottville native, and her husband, Dr. Joe Adamchak, have just started seeing patients and are looking forward to sharing the benefits of the primary care model and their extensive experience with Family Medicine and physical therapy in both military and civilian practices.
A 2007 graduate of Ellicottville Central School and originally from East Otto, Dr. Stephanie Adamchak studied at Case Western Reserve University, where she earned her bachelor's degree in biology and Spanish. She attended medical school at SUNY Upstate Medical University through the U.S. Army and served on active duty in the U.S. and abroad. She completed her residency in Family Medicine at Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, Washington, where she met Joe. The couple moved to Germany, where Stephanie served on active duty and worked in an outpatient clinic. She was also deployed to Kabul, Afghanistan, during this period and continues to serve as an officer in the U.S. Army Reserves.
“Once I got out of active duty, we came back to the States,” Stephanie explained. “We lived in North Carolina for almost three years, and then we decided that we wanted to be near one of our families. We came here and just like being in a small community, and our boys are going to school where I went to school. They have the same teachers, the same bus driver. It’s pretty neat!”
Joe, a native of Idaho, earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training and Physical Education from the University of Idaho and his Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) from the University of Puget Sound. He is dual board-certified as a specialist in Sports Physical Therapy and Orthopedic Physical Therapy, which allows him to diagnose, treat, and prevent musculoskeletal injuries across all levels of activity. With almost 20 years of experience, Joe has worked in a range of settings, including serving as a Human Performance Physical Therapist for elite military units in the U.S. and abroad. Currently, he works in-season for the Buffalo Bills as a physical therapist on a part-time basis.
Valley Ridge is currently seeing patients in Dr. Kate’s Homegrown Pediatrics office at 5 Park Square in Ellicottville, though they do see patients in their homes if needed, and are planning to have their own office space in town soon. So what exactly is the direct primary care model? Stephanie explained that the concept involves fewer patients and more direct access to care. “It’s more like 300 versus thousands of patients, and we just have more time to build relationships. Your patients can directly access you, versus working through the layers of administration,” she explained. Rather than accepting insurance, direct primary care has a membership model; a monthly membership fee provides access to Valley Ridge, including unlimited appointments, telemedicine, messaging with Stephanie, and anything else that falls within the realm of primary care and family medicine.
Joe has been seeing physical therapy patients for the past several weeks since the Buffalo Bills’ season ended. “Right now, I’m doing all in-home visits, as we are working towards finding a location,” he explained. He is also developing relationships with a couple of fitness centers in the area so that he can treat out of those locations, too. Joe is looking forward to working with the Buffalo Bills part-time when the next season begins, but it isn’t the primary reason why he’s glad to be working in western New York. “The Buffalo Bills was a really cool opportunity, but the motivating factor was to move back here to be with family and do this cash-based business ourselves,” he noted.
Joe is no stranger to treating all kinds of injuries, whether they happen on a football field, on the slopes, or in the line of duty. “I had 10 years treating just orthopedic injuries of all types,” Joe said, speaking of his time working in Tacoma. “Police and fire and weekend warriors - just every type of injury and general orthopedics.” A certified athletic trainer, Joe worked with college athletes for approximately ten years and enjoys working with motivated patients and helping them meet their goals.
