Even without students, there’s a liveliness to Ellicottville Central this summer. Heavy machinery and men in hardhats mill about torn-up parking lots and the grounds are pockmarked with fresh holes and trenches.

Let’s take it back. It’s April in Maine, where what I thought would be a simple hike turned into an all-day event that never really happened. My goal was to hike part of the Appalachian Trail.

It’s been two years in the making, and it will be worth the wait! The Cattaraugus County Fair is returning to Little Valley for the 178th year from Aug. 1st through 7th, and it’s going to be a fair to remember. 

The Tri-County Arts Council will exhibit provocative and visionary paintings by two modern artists beginning August 6th through September 4th. A public reception for the two exhibits will be held from 7:00-9:00pm on Friday, Aug. 20th in the gallery.

Recently, a friend of mine asked me to put together a list of leg exercises that he could do with bad knees. This friend is an avid skier and cyclist and is only in his 30’s, but as he says, “has the knees of an 80-year-old.”

The Erie Cattaraugus Rail Trail will host a 42-mile charity bike ride from East Aurora to Ellicottville to raise funds to continue to build the 27-mile rail trail that runs along the former Buffalo & Pittsburgh rail line.

A proposed local law to update regulations for outdoor eateries in the village of Ellicottville could receive the thumb's-up at a special meeting of the Village Board of Trustees on July 28th at 4:00pm in the Village Hall.

The Tri-County Arts Council will hold a closing reception of Mike and Peter Jones’ Yadahta:wak Hihšönya:nö'. The reception will also include a performance by Mike Jones on guitar and feature Seneca dishes catered by Tracie Brown.

The Fattey Beer Company is famously known for providing a relaxed craft beer experience to neighborhoods across Western New York. On Saturday, June 28th, the company expanded its list of available beer taps with a new location in Ellicottville.

On Friday, July 23, 2021, the Summer Olympics will open with protective measures in place for athletes. A group of those Olympians will be carrying skateboards to Japan, taking part in opening ceremonies for the United States.
