Ellicottville Village Board Meeting: June Meeting Notes
Residents Approach Mayor with Interest to Fundraiser for Improvements to the Village Park; New Short-term Rental Notice Issued
The Ellicottville Village Board gathered on Tuesday evening, June 17th for their regular monthly meeting. Highlights are as follows:
Starting the meeting off with some Good News, the Village was happy to announce that the Mill St. Parking Lot walkway contract has been signed, and they will prepare for the next steps to follow. The walkway, however, will not be concrete. Further planning will include sourcing other necessary materials for the project.
A group of Village residents have met with Mayor Burrell and are looking for ways to raise funding for improvements to the Village Park. They hope to possibly add a dug out to the baseball field, an electronic scoreboard, benches, and other useful equipment. The Board appreciates that this group is going out of their way to contribute to the community and commends their efforts.
The Financial Reports and Audit of Claims were presented to the Board. After review, they were passed without issue or concern.
After an interview with the Village Accountant, Clerk, and the Mayor, S&P Global Ratings updated the Village bond status to an A/Stable. They have deemed the Village a forward-looking option and note their willingness to meet financial commitments as they come due.
A new short-term rental notice has been issued by the Village. This applies only to Village short-term rentals and pertains to the license application and renewal process. Effective immediately, the Village Clerk’s office will be the initial point of contact regarding applications for new short-term rental licenses and the renewal of previous licenses. There is additionally a shift in the timeline that licenses hold, which will now align with the Village of Ellicottville’s fiscal year, June-May annually. The pricing of the application fee will reflect the unit size and is as follows:
• Studio to 2 Bedroom, $400
• 3 to 4 Bedroom, $750
• 5+ Bedroom, $1,000
The annual renewal fee will be charged in the same amount as the application fee. Any further questions regarding this change can kindly be addressed directly to the Village Clerk’s Office at 716-699-4636 x 2, email: amyvillageevl@gmail.com and in-person during office hours: Monday-Friday 8:30am-4:00pm. You can find further information on the official Village of Ellicottville website under the Clerk’s Office section at www.ellicottvillegov.com.
The Board then moved on to the Mayor’s Report, which included a recap of the NYCOM annual conference. This year, new trustee Chad Neal was in attendance with the mayor and reflected on the positive experience. They were able to extend their connections to mayors from across New York State as well as fellow trustees and municipal employees. Also included in the event were a wide range of beneficial workshops and seminars to extend resources to attendees.
The Village of Ellicottville is making the shift to an official .gov website. In this effort, the Village and Town of Ellicottville will be separating their information into separate websites to ensure all necessary information is shared accurately and in an organized manner. They expect this change in the next three to six months.
Concerns regarding the restoration of Elizabeth Street and possible damage discovered post-winter were brought up. The Village plans to conduct more research and continue further conversations surrounding the matter before they address the concerns.
The Board will gather again in July. Access meeting dates, previous meeting minutes, upcoming agendas, and more at ellicottvillegov.com.
